I was inspired to paint “Happy Boy Jumping” by a photo I took of my rowdy, Hairy Hairless Chinese Crested dog as he played in the yard, jumping for sticks, leaves, and pine straw last summer. Backyard playtime is frequently brief during the oppressive heat of the dog days of summer, which is represented in this painting by the color palette.
